As far as I'm concerned, chromed side covers are a definite must-do. Don't know the price yet. Also, there's chrome paint that works pretty well. Usually, if the metal is flexible, and chrome might peel, you paint it; if it's not, chrome is good.
Look at the Savage pics; there are a couple with chromed side covers. Looks great -- especially with the chrome pulley cover (like Barbara Brooker's). I plan to chrome the engine cases, swingarm, front fender, maybe even the carbeurator housing, & install a full (possibly chromed) rear fender, too.
Chrome might not get you home; but, it looks good!
